Upgrading FooCall

  • So what's new?

    The latest Version of FooCall offers SMS text messaging for the first time. Find our more about our new SMS service here.

    FooCall still enables you to make low cost calls over GSM using your monthly inclusive/free network minutes (in supported countries). Please note: GSM calling with FooCall is only available from the same country that you verify your FooCall account with, and is currently supported in 23 countries. See below for ‘Which countries is GSM calling available in?’

    If you are travelling, then you naturally wouldn’t want to use GSM calling from your home country – with FooCall you can simply locate a Wi-Fi hotspot, and make low cost calls back home (or to anywhere else!), saving you on expensive roaming costs.

  • I've just upgraded my FooCall app, but can't see my balance?

    Don’t worry, you won’t have lost anything during the upgrade. Simply email us via the ‘Support’ screen of the main menu, and we can locate your balance for you if it isn’t appearing on the app.

  • Why do I need to go through a verification process if I'm already a FooCall customer?

    Our verification process is simply to ensure that if you are already a FooCaller. Your account is transferred to the new app, along with any balance you already had. It is also designed to simplify the sign-up process for new FooCallers.

  • Why do you ask for my email address?

    We ask for your email address so we can keep you up to date with any exclusive money saving offers and details of upgrades and service enhancements.

Calling via GSM

  • I've just downloaded FooCall, but I can't see an option to call via GSM?

    If you’re trying FooCall for the first time, your free call will be connected over Wi-Fi or Data. Once you’ve topped up you will be able to connect by GSM if supported in your country.
    Our GSM calling option is currently available in 23 countries. You can see the full list below under ‘Which countries is GSM calling available in?’ Alternatively, with the new FooCall you can make calls using your Wi-Fi or 3G/4G connection from anywhere in the world.

  • Which countries is GSM calling available in?

    You can use your inclusive/free network minutes to make your calls, using our local numbers. This feature is currently available in the following 23 countries:

  • How do I add credit to FooCall? I can't see an option to add credit via PayPal or my credit card?

    FooCall for iOS now supports adding FooCall credit via your iTunes account. Please note, adding credit via PayPal, credit or debit cards is no longer available in the iOS app. For questions about adding credit, please email ask@foocall.com.

  • With GSM calling, why do I have to pay FooCall for the call when I'm already using my mobile inclusive network minutes to make the call?

    If you can’t connect to Wi-Fi or have no 4G/3G signal, you can still make calls with FooCall. If you’re in your home country, the app will use your free monthly minutes from your operator to connect you to one of our local numbers, which will then automatically connect you to the number you are calling.

    You won’t be charged any extra for using FooCall via GSM calling, the same low rates apply whether you connect with Wi-Fi, 3G/4G or your monthly minutes (supported countries only).

Calling via Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G

  • I'm not near a Wi-Fi hotspot, but don't want to use my mobile 4G/3G data as it costs me. How else can I make a call?

    You can still make calls with FooCall using your inclusive/free network minutes from your mobile provider. Just check to see if your location is included in the list of 23 countries which GSM calling is enabled in. If your location is included, simply call using this option from either the keypad, or from the contact details of the person you want to c

  • I'm on a Pay As You Go phone, so don't have any inclusive/free network minutes. What's the best option for me?

    The new FooCall app allows you to make calls over Wi-Fi. From the keypad, simply dial the number you wish to call and tap the ‘Using Wi-Fi/3G’ button. Alternatively, tap the Wi-Fi icon from the contact details screen of the person you wish to call.

  • I'm trying to call over Wi-Fi but my call isn't going through. What could be wrong?

    There may be an issue with the public Wi-Fi service you are using. Alternatively, your provider may be restricting data usage. If you are in a supported country, you can call via our GSM calling option instead.

Travelling

  • I'm going on holiday soon, can I use FooCall abroad?

    Yes! You can use FooCall as your WiFi phone. Please be aware that if you don’t use FooCall over Wi-Fi you may incur expensive data roaming charges through your mobile provider.

  • I'm on holiday and want to call home but the GSM calling option isn't working. Why is this?

    You can only use the GSM calling feature if your home country that your mobile is registered in is one of the 23 countries that GSM calling is available in. If you are not in the country your mobile is registered in you will not be able to use this option. Instead, simply find a local Wi-Fi hotspot and use the Wi-Fi calling option to call home at the same low rate.

Miscellaneous

  • Can I call someone for free if we both have FooCall on our phones?

    FooCall is designed simply to allow calls to be made to any number in the world at really low rates. There is no free calling option available.
